Corporate Chaplain's Handbook Released Through Years of Experience

In recent years, many books have been written about the rise of spirituality in the workplace. While this trend is important to understand, there has been, to date, no “how to” guide for the corporate chaplain. The Complete Corporate Chaplain's Handbook (496 pp., $69.95, © 2006), exists to fill the procedural and information gap for workplace ministry. It has been in development for more than ten years. The content found on these pages is a culmination of more than 50 years of workplace experience, 26 years of higher level education, and nearly 30 years of ministry experience. As a corporate chaplain, what would you do when someone is considering the life and death decision of euthanasia? How about the stress of blended families? Knowing when to present the life-changing Good News of Jesus Christ can be a sensitive matter. Do you know how to gain permission to share effectively? Having faced these, and many other issues found in workplace ministry, the authors (Mark Cress, Chris Hobgood, and Dwayne Reece) have compiled the most comprehensive body of work on this subject to date. This text explores the basics of corporate chaplaincy, covers in depth the practical matters of ministry in the workplace, and allows application of the fundamentals of effective service and evangelism through case studies and discussion questions. Pertinent topics include, but are not limited to, confidentiality, suicide, addiction, legal matters, and relationship issues. Digest the information found in these pages for effectiveness in building bridges between the workplace and Christ, the hope of glory. Keep this book on hand as a reference for the many opportunities of ministry in the greatest mission field on earth: the workplace.

When people meet Mark Cress, they immediately recognize he is a natural entrepreneur. During his business career, he owned several companies and served on numerous boards. Yet more than a decade ago, he sold his business interest to enroll in seminary and answered a calling to workplace ministry. Upon graduation with a Master of Divinity degree, he founded the national non-profit Corporate Chaplains of America, which has become one of the leading providers of employee care services in the United States. He continues to serve as the organization’s president.

Chris Hobgood serves as Associate Vice-President for Training and Chaplain Development at Corporate Chaplains of America. He joined the organization in 1999 as a staff chaplain in Atlanta, Georgia, later serving as Managing Chaplain and Corporate Trainer. He earned a BSE in Marketing and Education from Georgia State University and a Masters of Education degree from Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina. He is currently a doctoral candidate for a degree in Business Ethics and Leadership Development at Colorado Seminary in Denver, Colorado. Chris resides with his wife and daughter in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Dwayne Reece serves as Associate Vice-President for National Development at Corporate Chaplains of America. He joined the organization in early 2000 as a staff chaplain in Columbia, South Carolina, where he was honored in 2002 as National Chaplain of the Year. He earned a BS in Business from The University of North Carolina at Asheville, a Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest, and a Doctor of Ministry from Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He resides with his wife and two children in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
